Job Role Redesign
CLIENT SECTOR: Financial Services: new job role ... senior people ... lacking a common understanding ... one-off workshop ... collaboration and team work.
As part of a reorganisation, a new job role had been introduced. The role was to be filled by a number of senior people who had all been working in related fields. The recruits all had the necessary technical background; what was lacking was a common understanding of the new role and how it would be carried out.
Members of the Hiltrain team designed a one-off workshop around the theme of a day-long quiz show, with a cup and rosettes for the winning team. Its serious purposes were:
• to explore the recruits' perceptions of the new role and have them come to a common understanding
• to check and, if necessary, correct current technical knowledge
• to begin to develop collaboration and team work among the recruits.
The day was thoroughly enjoyed, perceptions were clarified, knowledge was updated and the recruits left feeling confident.
